The latest research from SEOMoz and Hubspot highlight the importance of social media for content marketers – see the infographic below.

What surprised me most was the growing use of Google+ by marketers. After all just last week there was another infographic on why Google+ was a ghost-town. I even shared this on LinkedIn and there was some great debate — but most seemed to agree. And the original blog garnered a lot of share and lots of comments. I recall one comment being that Google+ is a site for SEO consultants – after-all everyone wants to become the thought-leader on the next big social media thing right? Maybe Google+ will be it?

However, the SEO juice from Google is discussed much and this has led me to rethink my stance. In the near future I hope to have the time to spend more time there or at least setup a company page to get this juice.

LinkedIn fell behind to 5th after Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and YouTube. However for B2B content marketers I would still use LinkedIn over most of these – again assuming your audience supports this. And the following graph from SEOMoz from the same study shows LinkedIn a great source for link building. I quote:

So, while LinkedIn may be the least obvious choice for sharing activity, it is still incredibly important for marketers also interested in SEO performance.
